Monthly Challenge #8 - December is Here!!!

Hi everyone.

Before I let you in on our next challenge, let’s give it up for Michelle who responded to MC #7- Happy Holiday’s - Michelle's Witch Hunt.

So December is here and everyone is getting ready for the holidays.

You may or may not be participating in December Daily 2011 {I am} but this is a cool challenge whether you use it for DD or just a regular layout.

The challenge is to scrap about your favorite Christmas shows/movies and my challenge is to have your pictures/title/embellishments/journaling just in one corner and leave a lot of negative space.

I'll be working on mine soon.  I can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

Monthly Challenge #7: Happy Holidays

No, I'm not jumping the gun on Christmas. In fact, while shopping today I was somewhat sickened by the fact that stores are completely decorated and playing Christmas music already.

This challenge is to take any holiday paper, embellies, etc. and use them for something completely unrelated for the intended holiday. What made me think of this is that I have some really cool St. Patrick's Day paper that I've had for years because I don't celebrate the holiday. I thought it would be interesting to think outside the box. :)

Monthly Challenge #5: September-A Month to Remember

If you can peel your eyes away long enough from The Boob Tube, here are a few words from last month's challenge. Light up the applause sign for Michelle's (aka Chell Rae) "That 70's Show" spread. And now, back to your regularly scheduled blogging.

This month's challenge is inspired by a number of ideas: two of our SHizztas' birthdays, International Self Awareness Month, and the tenth anniversary of a day we will never forget. Your challenge is threefold. Create a layout that: 1) includes the color sapphire, the September birthstone; 2) expresses yourself and the consciousness of your existence, the definition of self awareness; and 3) contains the word "remember," a small, honorable mention of September 11.

I'd like to add that since I've been experiencing quite an erratic scraft mojo in the past few months, I initially, wanted to make this challenge simpler and just get us scrafting. I thought of encouraging personal expressions, of any size, that didn't necessarily include our own photos--be it about a TV show, a book, a celebrity, a character, a pet peeve, a color, a song, a performer, a drink, a movie, a shoe, a wish, an emotion... anything! However, I felt I would be remiss to exclude this milestone year marking the remembrance of September 11. That noted, there might be those who are already planning a memorial page, while others might be overwhelmed by the emotions that this day conjures up to consider working on a piece this month. Either way, I hope this challenge honors both inclinations and ultimately inspires you to be self aware, encourages you to express yourself, and coaxes you to share your self with us.

Monthly Challenge 4/August 2011 - The Boob Tube

Now for the challenge - The Boob Tube. Okay, I admit, the fact that I've been nursing our little one since last year may have led to the title of this challenge, LOL. But this challenge has nothing to do with babies or mammary glands (unless you want it to)! Simply put, scrap a layout using the title of a TV show, past or present. Easy & fun, right?!

Monthly Challenge for May: "Moms are people too"

With Mom in mind (Mother's Day is on the 8th - don't forget!), I'd like to focus on moms as people. Do a LO that celebrates the woman you are fortunate enough to also call mom. Her childhood, her marriage, her best friends, but something about her that showcases her as the woman she is or was rather than focusing on her as your mother. ALSO, bring back a classic: do some punch art on the page. Look at those punches you've amassed as shapes that can be turned into something else. You could just do some layered embellishments or an elaborate scene. Have fun.

MC #1- Get Your Journaling On!

Welcome to the first Monthly Challenge of 2011.  With our busy schedules, we hope that having less challenges will make it easier for more participation in them.

Before getting to this challenge, I'd like to share who participated in the last challenge -- Denitza's BWC#6:

For some of us, journaling is not a challenge.  It comes naturally.  We enjoy it.  For others...it's pure pain.  For both parties, I have a challenge, and for most of us, this type of journaling is different than what we do normally.

Your challenge this month is to:

1. write your journaling to someone (i.e. the person the page is about); OR

2. use a long title which can stand alone as your journaling; OR

3. if you're feeling adventurous, do both!

Here's an example of a layout where I use both journaling to someone and a long title:

As is common in his first year album, my journaling is to my son.  Had I not included the journaling, the title -- "You are a silly happy sweet boy" -- could stand alone and still give a great idea as to the thoughts/feelings I have while looking at the photos on the page.
